COLLINGWOOD SPORTS HALL OF FAME — INDUCTION CLASS OF 2024
The Directors of the Collingwood Sports Hall of Fame are pleased to announce the most recent class of Inductees into the Collingwood Sports Hall of Fame.
This event marks the 50th year since the Hall’s inception when its founder Scotty Carmichael introduced the inaugural members that have grown to number 166 sporting personalities and 41 teams. In the bi-annual tradition of receiving public nominations, the Selection Committee & the Board of Directors are pleased to announce that four (4) new members will enter the Hall of Fame, and one (1) team will be welcomed into the Wall of Fame.
Andrea Bevan Athlete – Hockey
Member of the 2004-05 Woman’s CIS Hockey Championship team
(Laurier Golden Hawks) & 5 consecutive OUA Championships (2004-2009)
Consistently named to OUA All-Star and/or CIS All-Canadian Teams (2004-2009)
Two time Wilfrid Laurier Athlete of the Year (2006-2007&2008-2009)
Inducted into the Laurier Golden Hawks Sports Hall of Fame
Represented Canada in the 2005 National Women’s Hockey Program
Gold medalist at the 2007 European Cup (Germany) with Team Canada
Played for Team Canada, winning gold at the 2009 Winter Universiade
Inducted into CCI Black & Gold Sports Hall of Fame in 2018
Andrea Ironside Athlete – Hockey
Member of 2004 OFSSA Champions – Jean Vanier C.H.S Varsity Girl’s Hockey Team
Secured five consecutive OUA Championships (2005-2010) with Laurier Golden Hawks
Earned the OUA Woman’s Hockey Scoring Title in 2008-09
Played for Team Canada, winning gold at the 2009 Winter Universiade
(Harbin, China) and 2011 (Erzurum, Turkey)
Member of the Brampton Thunder (CWHL) from 2010-2012
William “Bill” Kirby Builder – Hockey
Instrumental in founding Collingwood’s Juvenile and Bantam hockey teams for OHA representation in 1946
Executive Member of the Collingwood Minor Hockey Association (1946-1950)
Recognized for his woodworking expertise, providing up to 200-300 hockey sticks annually to local players
Collingwood Minor Hockey established the Bill Kirby Memorial Trophy in 1961, honoring exemplary hockey skill, academic achievement, and sportsmanship
Don Thorne Builder – Basketball
Began officiating basketball as a Collingwood Collegiate Institute (CCI) student in 1973-74
Officiated at the Ontario University level 10 years, Referee-in-Chief at (7) OFSSAA Championships and at (4) Ontario College Championships
Served on the Executive Committees of the Ont. Ass. of Basketball Officials (2005 – 2021) and IAABO (2008 – 2024)
Certified shot clock operator for prestigious events including Pan-Am Games, FIBA U18 Americas, NBA G-League Raptors 905, and NCAA Naismith Classic
2024-25 President of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials
Wall of Fame – Team
2003-2004 Jean Vanier C.H.S Varsity Girl’s Hockey Team
Conquered the Georgian Bay Secondary School Championship in 2003-2004
Clinched the OFSAA “A/AA” Gold Medal in 2004.
Team was undefeated throughout the regular season, G.B.S.S.A playoffs & OFSAA
The induction ceremony is scheduled for October 19, 2024, at the Collingwood Legion, promising an evening of celebration honouring 50 years of sporting excellence in Collingwood and its environs. About Collingwood Sports Hall of Fame: The Collingwood Sports Hall of Fame, established in 1974, celebrates and preserves the rich athletic heritage of Collingwood and its surrounding communities. Through its inductions and events, the Hall of Fame celebrates the achievements of outstanding athletes, coaches, and contributors to the local sports scene. Through the support of the citizens of Collingwood, the Hall of Fame room was constructed in 1984 and proudly displays all inductees and artifacts. It is open to the public during the operating hours of the Eddie Bush Community Arena.

2024 REQUEST FOR NOMINATIONS
The directors of the Collingwood Sports Hall of Fame invite the residents of our community to submit nominations for consideration of member Induction in the COLLINGWOOD SPORTS HALL OF FAME.
Nominations within the ‘Builders’, ‘Athletes’ and ‘Team’ categories will be accepted commencing Thursday, January 4 through Friday, March 29, 2024 at 4:30 pm.
Official guidelines and nomination forms will be available online at www.collingwoodsportshalloffame.ca (Eligibility Criteria). All fully completed forms must be delivered to the Collingwood Public Library (55 St. Marie Street, Collingwood, Ontario). This information will provide the Selection Committee with the required facts in their consideration and endorsement.
In May 2024, a press release will be issued to recognize these honoured individuals & teams from our sporting community.
The Hall of Fame, situated at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena, was established to celebrate the rich sporting heritage of our community. Currently, the Hall of Fame features a grand total of 162 local builders & athletes who have moved into a professional sports career or achieved local/ provincial/national amateur and professional championships.
Upon the approved recommendation for induction, the newest Hall of Fame members will be officially introduced at the Collingwood Sports Hall of Fame Induction Dinner & Ceremony planned for Fall 2024.
This year’s event marks the 50th year since the Hall’s inception in 1974.

The 24th bi-annual COLLINGWOOD SPORTS HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONIES is confirmed to officially welcome its Class of 2022 Inductees at the Collingwood Legion.
For this event, we are honoured to welcome retired NHL Referee Terry Gregson as our featured guest speaker. His officiating career began in the OMHA progressing through to the OHA, WHL, IHL, and CHL culminating in his arrival to the NHL in 1979. Throughout his NHL career, Terry officiated 1400 games plus 158 playoff games across 18 consecutive years that included 8 Stanley Cup finals. On the International front, Terry officiated professional hockey in Helsinki, Stockholm and Japan. A proud member of the Guelph Hall of Fame & OHA Honour Roll, Terry is a recipient of the Ron Foxcroft Officiating Excellence Award & NASO Gold Whistle Award for his contribution to the World of Officiating across all sports in North America.
In his post-ice career, Terry was the Senior Officiating Manager of NHL officials assisting in the development and execution of new managerial programs & succession planning program from 2005-2009 then Senior Vice President and Director of Officiating in charge of the NHL officiating staff from 2009-2013.

Induction Ceremony tickets are $45.00 (incl. dinner). Revenues generated from ticket sales assist in the Hall’s continued operations.

Manager of Collingwood Blues (Junior B) Hockey – 1973-76
Baseball Umpire – 1980-1990’s
Raymond Sheffield — Athlete – Hockey
Raised in Collingwood, Raymond’s career began in Minor Hockey and progressed through to the Stayner Siskin (Jr. C Champions – 1988-89), OHA Collingwood Blues (1989-90) & Creemore Chiefs
First captain of the Newcastle North Stars (2002) in Australian Ice Hockey League
– Won 4 National Championships + nine final appearances
Newcastle retired Raymond’s #19 after 13-year career averaging .64 pts/gm
& Captained more games than any player in the AIHL
Volunteered as Equipment Mgr. for 2007 National Senior Team in the IIHF World Championships (Div. II, Group B) in Seoul, Korea. Silver Medal.
Returned as Assistant Coach for the North Stars (2016) and won his fifth National Championship
